Special Meeting to decide future direction of Waratahs

By Tallon Smith

An Special General Meeting of the Griffith Waratah RLFC has been scheduled for Wednesday June 14 at 6pm at the Exies Sporties Club in Griffith.

The proud club, winners of thirteen Group 20 First Grade titles, have spent the 2023 season in recess due to a lack of players across all grades.

The meeting will help determine the club’s immediate and long term future, and the door is open to anyone willing to assist the club and committee in their return to the field for their 60 year anniversary in 2024.

Club President Robert Nascimben said that the club is remaining “positive” despite a competition-wide decline in rugby league in the Group 20 area.

“We are confident of having a First Grade side next year,” said Nascimben.

“We’ve got to remain positive.”

On a positive note, the Waratahs Junior club has a team in every age group from Under 6’s to Under 14’s and Under 16’s League Tag in 2023, a feat which has become even more important given the Senior club’s current circumstances.
