Group 9 Wrap: Roos thrash Tigers to rejoin top 5

By Tallon Smith

The Wagga Kangaroos have clawed their way into 4th spot after a 50-16 thrashing of the Gundagai Tigers at ANZAC Park in Gundagai on Saturday.

After slipping out of the top five for the first time in the season, Nathan Rose’s men piled on nine tries against the defending premiers, who now sit in sixth place with six rounds to play.

Meanwhile, the Junee Diesels have backed up their drought-breaking win against South City last weekend with a nailbiting 22-21 win over arch rivals Temora on Sunday.

The Diesels are now equal with South City, with a bye still up their sleeve in their desperate bid to avoid picking up the dreaded wooden spoon.

And finally, in the clash everyone in the region had been waiting for, the rematch of Albury and Tumut following their infamous brawl in Round 1, the Blues ran away with the chocolates 32-22 to hold on to top spot on the Group 9 ladder.

In games this weekend, Albury host Gundagai at Greenfield Park in a match that will have a massive say on whether both teams make the finals in a tight top five race, whilst Temora host Tumut at Nixon Park (both Saturday) and Young travels to Wagga to face the Kangaroos on Sunday afternoon.
