They’re back: Griffith Waratahs AGM a big success

By Tallon Smith

The Griffith Waratah Tigers are firming in their bid to return to the Group 20 competition in 2024 after holding a highly successful Annual General Meeting at the Exies Sporties on Tuesday Night.

After heavy promotion (including in conjunction with Battlers For Bush Footy), around 30 people attended the meeting, with all positions filled ahead of the club’s intended 2024 return.

Waratahs President Robert Nascimben, who was re-elected to the post on Tuesday Night, was extremely pleased with the outcome for the club.

“30 people attended the night, and it was a great roll up,” he said.

“Some new people have joined the club, and all positions were filled.”

The new committee also includes Trevour Weeks as Vice President, Mark Jafferies as Secretary, and Trevour Rice as Treasurer.

“There are around 20 people on the committee,” Nascimben said.

“Ads will go to social media for coaching applications.”

Speaking of the club’s plans for re-entry, Nascimben said the club is daring to dream of a complete return to all grades, and aims to maintain a local focus rather than buying outside talent.

“We are looking to recruit local people that are looking to play for a great club in 2024 and beyond,” he said.

“There were some suggestions around a women’s tackle side, but we would need to discuss that with the Group.”

“We’re looking at filling all five grades.”

Nascimben also added the following pieces of information, noting that the club is on the lookout for somebody to run their social media pages, which are a key facet of their plans to engage with the local community and promote the game in the region.

“We’re also looking for a social media person,” he said.

“Some fundraising dates will [also] come out soon.”

The Griffith Waratahs are the most successful club in the history of Group 20, winning 13 titles since their foundation in 1964.
