The most coveted accolade in country rugby league has been awarded for 2024 after the Camden Rams were confirmed as the winners of the Clayton Cup.
The presentation after the Rams’ spectacular season marks the first time they have won the cup, which is awarded to the country rugby league side that is best performed within its own competition throughout the season.
The Rams went undefeated through the regular season with a 16-0 record, before comfortably winning the Major Semi Final and then powering past The Oaks 38-26 in the Grand Final.
The awarding of the trophy to Camden marks the first time since 2012 that a Group 6 club clinched the title, with Picton in 1966, Mittagong in 1991 the only two other clubs to take out the cup from the competition.
2022 Clayton Cup winners Scone were the only other club to remain undefeated in 2024 with a 15-0 record, before taking out the Group 21 Grand Final against Greta-Branxton 18-10.
It is unclear as to what tiebreaker saw Camden awarded the Cup over Scone, given that the Thoroughbreds had a points differential of +594 compared to the Rams +569, despite playing one less game.
But in the end, the decision was made to declare Camden the Clayton Cup winners for 2024, and Battlers For Bush Footy would like to extend our congratulations to the club on the fantastic achievement.
