The 2025 Goulburn Murray Premiership season will begin the weekend after Anzac Day after NRL Victoria decided not to schedule any matches prior to a late Easter this year.
The competition draw, released on Thursday, features a bumper opening round on April 27, with Wolfpack to face last year’s runners-up Tumbarumba before a Wodonga derby between the Wombats and Border Bears at Baranduda, while defending premiers Shepparton will take on the CSU Mud Dogs prior to Corowa’s traditional Anzac Round match against Wangaratta.
The highly anticipated Grand Final rematch between Tumbarumba and Shepparton will take place as the first men’s match of the day in round 5 at Eldorado’s Centennial Park, with the return clash set to take place in round 10 at Baranduda.
Meanwhile, the rematch of last year’s women’s league tag decider between Wangaratta and Corowa will take place in the opening round at Corowa, before the return bout at Glenrowan in round 11 on July 20.
Round 11 will see a triple-header staged at Glenrowan, with the Wombats taking on the Bears, Shepparton facing CSU Albury, and Wangaratta hosting Corowa, with the Tumbarumba v Wolfpack clash being staged at Tumbarumba.
The final round, to be held on August 10, will see Wangaratta play Shepparton before Wodonga Wombats host Tumbarumba at Baranduda, while Corowa will tackle Border Bears before the Mud Dogs and Wolfpack round out the regular season.
Finals will follow on from there, with the top four battling it out over a three-week series.
The Preliminary Final and Grand Final will both be staged on Saturdays, with the Grand Final to be held at Glenrowan Recreation Reserve on August 30.
With the exception of round 11, all rounds will feature the four matches taking place in the form of two double headers, allowing the competition’s widespread array of teams to meet on the undercard at neutral venues to reduce travel.
