Anzac Day match set to open shortened 2025 Group 16 season after draw revealed

Tallon Smith

Cooma and Bombala will open the 2025 Group 16 season with an Anzac Day clash after the competition’s draw was revealed last week.

Eden will play Bega on the Saturday, while Moruya will face Tathra and Narooma tackle Merimbula-Pambula to round out the opening round on Sunday April 27.

Narooma will have two home games to open their return campaign in the competition, with their round 2 clash against Bombala also at Bill Smyth Memorial Oval on May 4.

Batemans Bay will kick start their season in round two after an opening round bye, hosting 2024 runners-up the Eden Tigers at Mackay Park.

There will be no Grand Final rematch in 2025 after defending premiers Snowy River Bears moved to the George Tooke Shield following a player exodus.

One criticism of the draw has been the fact that teams will only play 12 games across the 14 round competition.

One club President told Battlers For Bush Footy that his club had prepared for a 14-game schedule and would be at a financial disadvantage without the gate takings from a seventh home game.

There will be a general bye on the June Long Weekend, with no games scheduled to take place.

The season concludes on the weekend of August 9/10 with Tathra facing Cooma, Moruya playing Eden, Batemans Bay travelling to Bega, and Bombala hosting Merimbula-Pambula, with Narooma having the bye.
