The Googong Goannas will make their competitive debut as round one of the 2025 George Tooke Shield competition kicks off this Saturday in the Eastern Riverina and Capital Country.
The Goannas will host the North Canberra Bears as part of a four-game slate to kick off the season for the CRRL’s second division competition.
Meanwhile, Nick Hall’s Harden Hawks will face Binalong in the local derby at McLean Oval.
The grudge match comes after Harden knocked the Brahmans out of the finals last season with a 23-16 win in the Preliminary Final at Harden.
Defending premiers Bungendore will host the Crookwell Green Devils at Mick Sherd Oval in one of the biggest games of the season.
The two oldest GTS clubs have a history of success in the competition, and the 2022 Premier Green Devils will be keen to spoil the Tigers’ party on opening day.
Finally, 2023 Premiers Boorowa Rovers will tackle the University of Canberra Stars at the Boorowa Showground.
After sneaking into the top five last season, the Rovers will be keen to improve on that performance against last season’s wooden spooners.
The Reigning Group 16 Premiers and returning side Snowy River Bears have the bye first up.
