The Shellharbour Sharks have maintained top spot on the Group 7 Rugby League ladder after a 14-6 win over the Kiama Knights in the match of the round at Ron Costello Oval on Sunday afternoon.
After kicking a game clear of cross-town rivals Stingrays a week prior, the Sharks went into the round 12 matchup with the Knights looking to maintain the two-point buffer, and did so in a tough encounter on their home patch.
NSW Country representative Braxton Wallace starred for the Sharks, crossing for a try and booting three goals for 10 of the side’s 14 points on the day.
Meanwhile, the Nowra-Bomaderry Jets kept their faint finals hopes alive with a 28-16 win over the Jamberoo Superoos at Bomaderry Sporting Complex.
A double to back rower Jayden Brody was complemented by a 12 point haul from Braydon Rumble Walsh, which lead the Jets to a much-needed home victory in the race for the top five.
In Saturday’s action, Stingrays Shellharbour kept the pressure on the Sharks with a 22-10 win over the Berry-Shoalhaven Heads Magpies at Berry Showground.
Hamish McLaurin led all scorers with a try and three goals to boot, as the ‘Rays secured the two points with a comfortable four tries to two victory.
Finally, in a crucial matchup for the fifth spot on the table, Albion Park-Oak Flats made the most of their home ground advantage in a 28-14 win over Milton-Ulladulla.
The Eagles ran in five tries to the Bulldogs’ three to secure the win and move a little closer to a second consecutive finals berth.
Illawarra League: Dapto upset Devils in derby
The Wests Devils have fallen to a third consecutive shock loss after a 24-14 loss to the Dapto Canaries at Sid Parrish Park on Saturday.
Narrandera product turned Dapto centre Campbell Lyons played a crucial role in the win, scoring what proved to be a match-winning double for the Canaries as they followed in De La Salle and Corrimal’s footsteps in knocking off the defending premiers.
Elsewhere, the Thirroul Butchers ran in seven tries to five for a 38-24 win over Collegians, and De La Salle Caringbah made it two on the trot with a 38-20 win over Corrimal at Ziems Park.
In a quirk of the draw, the wet weather round this weekend sees the same fixtures of the round just played up again, with all eyes on the rematch between Wests and Dapto.

George Tooke: Big scorelines all round
The Harden Hawks have maintained their leadership of the George Tooke Shield with a strong 44-4 win over Snowy River Bears at JJ Connors Oval in Jindabyne.
Drew Arabin, Kyle Sharp and Joshua Fogg all crossed for doubles in the big win, which cements Harden as one of the favourites as they seek revenge on Bungendore for last season’s Grand Final loss.
North Canberra also cracked the 40-point mark in their victory over the UC Stars at Raiders Belconnen in the competition’s Canberra derby.
The scoreline mirrored that of the League Tag match on a derby day dominated by the Bears.
Last-start winners Googong tried hard to turn their inaugural victory into a second, but ultimately the trip to Crookwell was too much as the Green Devils recorded a 32-10 win at the Memorial Oval on Sunday.
Seven different scorers crossed the white stripe for the Devils on their way to a fifth consecutive win.
The remaining match in round nine saw Boorowa defeat Binalong 30-12.
