Parra’s Piece: Thunder lower grades continue run with wins over Brothers

Peter (Parra) Montgomery

The Thunder lower grade men’s teams, as expected, recorded big wins over the Wagga Brothers club.

The table-topping Brothers League Tag team maintained its unbeaten status by scoring a 26-0 victory over the Thunder girls – but, the Thunder team showed it has improved greatly in recent weeks, bearing in mind Brothers won the first round clash 42-0.

The Thunder sit outside the ‘top five’ in seventh position, two wins behind fifth placed Gundagai Tigers.

An impressive 24 point haul by talented fullback Nate Broekman highlighted the Thunder’s 36-24 victory over Brothers in the Under 18 match.

Broekman crossed for four tries and landed four goals in an impressive display. The gifted fullback has scored 74 points in his ten games this season, having missed the opening four rounds with an injury suffered in pre-season representative trials.

Riley Ivanku crossed for two tries, and was rewarded with a run in the Reserve Grade victory, and helping himself to another try.

Eric Tui continues the good form which has seen him rewarded with selection in the Thunder’s top grade team.

Tui is developing into a hard hitting lock forward and his potential is unlimited.

The Reserve Grade team continued its unbeaten run with a 66-0 win over Brothers.

The mercy rule was applied with ten minutes to go.

The Thunder side was too well drilled, and too fit, for the Brothers side which is winless for the season.

Riley George, on the wing for the Thunder had a field day, crossing for three tries in a display that highlighted his pace, straight running, and determination.

Keiran Ford again demonstrated ability to guide the team around the paddock, and helped himself to three tries along the way.

Kitione Seruisavou showed promise of things to come by scoring two tries in a power display.

Connor Macleer had a busy afternoon in attack, carrying the ball forward at every opportunity.

Andrew Smith is in great form, and again was the perfect director of the attack for his team.
