The Wagga Brothers have made the second major move of the Group 9 off-season, announcing the signing of former South City coach Cleve McGhie for the 2026 campaign.
The outgoing Bulls mentor will join the Brothers in a playing capacity under the coaching of Blake Dunn, who will continue in the role next season.
The signing of McGhie was announced via a statement posted to the club’s Facebook page on Friday evening, with the club excited to acquire a player with such a decorated rugby league resume.
“Cleve has cemented himself as one of the most dominant centres in the competition over the past few seasons,” the statement read.
“Cleve brings a wealth of experience, building up a strong resume through the lower grades at several NRL clubs, playing in strong regional competitions, and playing a wealth of representative football, including stints in the NSW City and Country teams.
“We believe Cleve’s experience and leadership skills, highlighted by his recent tenure as coach at Southcity, are essential for our club to take a big step forward as we strive to be a competitive force, and to support the development of our next generation.
“We are privileged to welcome Cleve, Tanieka, Ziah, Takai and Yulani to our club.”
A Wollongong product and proud Wiradjuri man, McGhie has played at both NYC Under 20s level for Canberra as well as having stints at Newcastle and Mounties in the NSW Cup.
The signing of McGhie adds to Brothers’ recent acquisitions in club junior Cohen Benson and New Zealand product Bailie Lyttle.
The huge signing comes just one day after Temora made the first major move of the off-season, announcing Jordon Burley would coach the Dragons next year.
Burley will join the club after a successful stint as both Assistant Coach and President of Yenda.
