The famous green and gold jumper is set to return to Group 20 after an application from the Narrandera Lizards to re-join the competition was accepted at the competition’s annual general meeting.
The Lizards, who have spent the past eight seasons playing in the Proten Community Cup, will return to the competition likely via Reserve Grade, marking the first time since 2005 that the Lizards will start an open age team in the competition.
The club broke the news via its Facebook page on Sunday morning, with a statement announcing the Lizards’ return to the competition which they were a founding member of in 1954.
“After many proud and strong years competing in the Proten (Group 17) competition, the Narrandera Lizards are excited to announce that we’ve officially been accepted into Group 20 Rugby League for the upcoming season,” the statement read.
“This is a huge step forward for our club, a chance to grow, take on new challenges, and continue building the next generation of Lizards talent.
“We want to take this moment to thank Proten and Group 17 for all their support over the years, and also every single person who’s been involved with our club throughout our time in Group 17, players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, supporters, and families.
“You’ve all played a massive part in getting us to where we are today.”
The club also invited the broader Narrandera community to get involved and support the club on its return.
“As we move into this exciting new chapter, we’d love to see more people get involved and be part of our journey,” the statement continued.
“If you’re interested in helping out or joining the club in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out more hands make light work, and every bit of support means the world.
“Here’s to new beginnings, bigger challenges, and the same strong Lizard spirit that keeps Narrandera proud!

Narrandera’s return means that 10 clubs will contest the competition in 2025, with nine likely in first grade.
The club is also expected to field a women’s team and junior sides.
