Mixed start for Riverina as three regions record perfect opening to regional junior representative season

Three regions have had a perfect start to their NSWRL regional junior representative campaigns after the first match day on Saturday.

The Macarthur Wests Tigers, Newcastle Maitland Region Knights and Central Coast Roosters each won both their Laurie Daley Cup (under 18s) and Andrew Johns Cup (under 16s) matches.

The Tigers defeated the North Coast Bulldogs 30-12 in the Daley Cup and 40-22 in the Johns Cup, while the Roosters defeated the Western Rams in both games by margins of 58-12 (Daley) and 44-18 (Johns).

Finally, the Newcastle Maitland Region Knights defeated the Illawarra South Coast Steelers 6-4 and 20-12 in the Daley and Johns matches respectively.

The Riverina Bulls teams had a mixed start to their campaign, with the Andrew Johns Cup defeating the Northern Tigers 34-30, before the Laurie Daley Cup under 18s to the same opposition.

The Northern Rivers Titans, Monaro Colts and the Tigers joined them in recording a win and a loss across the two games.

Meanwhile, the Western Rams, North Coast Bulldogs and Illawarra South Coast Steelers each lost their opening round matches in both grades.

Results for the opening round of the Lisa Fiaola Cup Regional competition have not yet been officially released.
