The Proten Cup men’s representative side is set for a surprise return after seven years without a game.
The competition has been asked to play Regan Cup in Grenfell on May 16th, one week before the Proten Cup Knockout.
The rep side hasn’t played since August 2019, where they defeated Murray Cup 36-6 at Narrandera, avenging the 36-18 loss to the same opposition in Albury during the June long weekend.
The only other game the side has played was in September at the Hay Masters in 2018, again against Murray Cup with this game ending in a draw.
With the season taking place during a difficult time to find opponents, along with Murray Cup defecting to NRL Victoria, there hasn’t been any representative fixtures lately, with only the women’s side playing against a Group 20 rep side at the Group 20 Knockout in 2023.
Premiership coach Noah Forbutt will lead the side, with former co-coach Adam Thomas and Goolgowi’s Ben Marks assisting, along with Dwayne Evans and Brad Lawrence from Ivanhoe helping out as trainers.
The training squad includes:
Malek Afuamua-Lyons (Hillston), Gary Braddick (Barellan), Nathan Brettschneider (Hillston), Tommy Brettschneider (Hillston), Lochyer Brennan (Ivanhoe), Brayden Davis (Hillston), Tea Dee (Hillston), Jermaine Dixon (Ivanhoe), Adam Evans (Barellan), Noah Forbutt (Barellan), Rodney Gibbs (Barellan), Beigh Hillier (Barellan), Mark Huntly (Ivanhoe), Tyrone Johnson (Ivanhoe), Anthony Jones (Ivanhoe), Jamie Parsons (Rankins Springs), Darcy Payne (Barellan), Tom Power (Rankins Springs), Saul Railo (Hillston), Irimax Rokotola (Hillston), Tom Sellars (Goolgowi), Jasvir Singh Clark (Goolgowi), Willie Taualupe (Hillston), Henry Taylor (Goolgowi), Oliver Taylor (Goolgowi), Adam Thomas (Barellan), Reece Wilson (Barellan), Trey Woodland (Goolgowi)
