Group 20 Rugby League Clubs

Darlington Point-Coleambally Roosters 

Formed in 1973 from the merger of Darlington Point and Group 17’s Coleambally Greens, the Darlington Point-Coleambally Roosters are Group 20’s southernmost club. 

The club, whose name is commonly shortened to DPC, have won five First Grade titles, in 1980, 1983, 1987, 1988 and 2019.

Griffith Black & Whites Panthers 

Formed in 1921 as Group 20’s second oldest club, the Griffith Black & Whites have competed in Group 20 since the competition’s inaugural 1954 season after initially playing in neighbouring Group 9.

Based at league headquarters, E.W. Moore Oval, and proudly backed by the Griffith Leagues Club, the Panthers have won seven First Grade titles, in 1954, 1958, 1961, 1975, 1990, 1998 and 2017.

Griffith Waratah Tigers

By far and away Group 20’s most successful club of the past few decades, the Griffith Waratah Tigers were formed in 1964 at the top of the iconic Area Hotel in Griffith’s main street. 

Producers of more than a dozen NRL, Country and NSW representatives, the Waratahs have won an unmatched 13 Group 20 First Grade titles, in 1967, 1969, 1971–72, 1976-77-78, 1985, 2008, 2010, 2014–15 and 2018.

Hay Magpies

Joining in 2007 as Group 20’s newest club, the Hay Magpies formerly played in the Group 17 competition after being formed in 1931, in which they won twelve First Grade titles, a record still yet to be surpassed in that competition.

Beginning First Grade play in 2011 after four years and a 2009 Premiership in Reserves, Hay are yet to taste success in the top grade.

Leeton Greenies

At almost 100 years old, the Leeton Greenies are one of Group 20’s oldest and strongest clubs, and are one of three foundation clubs of the competition from 1954.

In that time, the Greenies have won eight First Grade titles, in 1959, 1964, 1966, 1981, 1997, 2007 and 2022-2023.

Tullibigeal-Lake Cargelligo United Sharks

Formed in 1970 as a merger of the Tullibigeal and Lake Cargelligo sides who previously competed in Group 17 Zone 1.

The former club of late Group 20 great Ray Thorpe (whom the competition’s First Grade Best and Fairest Medal is named for), club has won three Group 20 First Grade titles, in 1974, 2013 and 2016.

West Wyalong Mallee Men

Formed in 1911 as the Goldfields Rugby League, the West Wyalong Mallee Men RLFC are the oldest rugby league club in Group 20, and were the joint first inland club alongside North Tamworth.

Playing in Group 9 until 1966, the Mallee Men have since won seven First Grade Premierships in Group 20, with those coming in 1968, 1970, 1984, 1989, 2005 and 2011–12.

Yanco-Wamoon Hawks

Formed in 1970, the Hawks are the product of an amalgamation between the former Yanco and Wamoon clubs, with both villages based on opposite sides of the Leeton town centre.

The club is led by a small but passionate committee, with a vibrant and community-based feel and a highly successful history that includes eight Group 20 First Grade Premierships, five of which were won consecutively between 1992 and 1996, with the others coming in 1973, 1979 and 2000. 

Yenda Blueheelers

Formed in 1924, the Yenda Blueheelers are one of the oldest clubs in the Riverina, and are one of three foundation clubs from Group 20’s inaugural season in 1954.

Winners of the Clayton Cup as the best team in Country NSW in 2009, the Blueheelers have accrued seven titles in their time in Group 20, in 1982,  a four-peat from 2001–2004, and again in 2006 and 2009.
