I can’t read stories via links on Facebook on my phone. How can this be fixed?

This is a common problem, which is caused by Facebook. This is because Facebook does not remember users are logged in from previous visits like a web browser does, meaning it asks you to log in every time (this is a problem for all news sites, from the Sydney Morning Herald to your local paper).

Thankfully, there is a simple and easy way around this.

Step 1: Go to Facebook and click the link to the story you would like to read.

Step 2: When the story opens, if you can’t read it because it is telling you to subscribe, click the three dots in the top right hand corner, and select ‘open in external browser’.

Step 3: Once the story opens in your external browser (e.g. Google or Safari), if the paywall is still there, select ‘Already a paid subscriber’.

Step 4: From there, put in your email and follow the prompts to log in. (You may need to make a WordPress account if you haven’t already, which is simple and easy – if it doesn’t ask you to do this, simply disregard this part).

Step 5: You should be able to read the story!
