Final: Temora v Orange CYMS

FULL TIME: Orange CYMS have taken out the 2026 West Wyalong Knockout with a 12-6 victory over a gallant Temora outfit.
TRY: Orange CYMS 12-6 – Mitch Collins charges over following a scrum to give Orange the lead with time winding down. Tobias Westcott adds the extras to give his side a converted try advantage.

FULL TIME: Temora has defeated Forbes 14-4 and will play either Orange CYMS or Campbelltown City in the final at 9pm.
TRY: Temora 14-4 – New signing Khaileb Cameron-Pani has scored a late try to secure a 10-point win for the Dragons and a path through to the Final. Conversion successful.

FULL TIME: The match has ended with scores level at 6-all, meaning Campbelltown City progress to the semi finals as the first tryscorers. They will face Orange CYMS at 7:50pm.

Comfortable win sees Temora join seven sides in advancing to day two of West Wyalong Knockout

EARLIER – The Temora Dragons were one of seven teams to advance to the quarter finals on night one of the West Wyalong Knockout courtesy of an 18-4 win over the Tullibigeal-Lakes United Sharks in the opening game at Ron Crowe Oval on Friday.

Four tries, scored by Brandon Nima, Khaileb Cameron-Pani, Brodie Mirtschin and Will McDermott secured the 14-point win for the Temora club, which will face home side West Wyalong in an inter-group local derby at 4:30pm tomorrow.

Temora co-captain Hamish Starr said that the match was a good hit out for the side, with several new inclusions getting a run alongside their new teammates in red and white for the first time.

“It was pretty good for the first hit out, obviously we’ve got a few new blokes [who have] come across this year, so [we’re] just trying to get the mix of blokes from last year and the newer blokes [and] trying to find out what combinations work,” he said.

“It’s probably a little bit tricky, especially the last couple of training runs have been a bit touch and go, but it was a good first hit out, boys got through a bit of work, and we stuck to the structure that we wanted to play, which is play down the other end and don’t drop the ball pretty much.”

While the win was a comfortable one in the end for Temora, the scoreline was reflective of a gallant effort from the TLU side in its first hit out under new coaches Cody Collins and Craig Morriss.

Starr said that while the Dragons held sway for the majority of the contest, the Sharks’ forwards more than held their own in a physical contest through the middle.

“I think to be fair, we controlled the game pretty well, their try came off of a penalty we gave them to get out of their own end,” he said.

“Other than that, I felt like we were getting to our kick, just putting them in a corner, stopping their go-forward.

“Don’t get me wrong [though], their forwards were huge for them, they found their front plenty of times and barged down the front door.”

As for who impressed him in his side’s first hit out for the year, Starr said the performance of a former Queensland Cup star on the flank stood out most.

“I think a new bloke out on the wing for us, Brandon Nima, he’s going to be pretty exciting to watch, I might just be able to catch them and give it to him early and say ‘here you go mate, you can do the kick returns’,” he said.

“He’s big and strong and powerful, so he showed class today.”

In other results, the Forbes Magpies joined Temora in the second round with a 16-12 win over the Leeton Greenies in the second match of the evening.

Farren Lamb was one of the stars of the show, crossing for two of his side’s three tries in the four-point win.

With new signings Brent Hawkins, Charlie Woolford and Kane Ball on display, the Young Cherrypickers completed a 22-0 shutout of Sam Dwyer’s Parkes Spacemen to book their spot in the final eight.

Five different tryscorers crossed the line for Cherrypickers in a strong team effort to kick start their campaign after a number of key personnel changes at the club over the off-season.

Home side West Wyalong gave the large crowd something to cheer about in their 16-6 victory over Group 16’s Cooma Stallions.

Fullback Logan Collins led the scorers with two tries for the Mallee Men as they turned a 10-4 half time lead into a 10-point first-up victory to begin the Luke Clarke era.

Next up came the shock elimination of two highly-rated teams, with Wagga Kangaroos upsetting last year’s Peter McDonald Premiership winners Dubbo CYMS 12-8 victory in their first game under coach Zeik Foster.

That was followed by the surprise round one exit of defending champions South City Bulls, who fell 12-6 to Sydney-based Macarthur Premiership side Campbelltown City Kangaroos.

Finally, in the last game of the night, the Woden Valley Rams defeated the Mudgee Dragons 6-0.

Meanwhile, Orange CYMS received a bye through to tomorrow’s quarter finals, which will run as follows.
