After just three rounds the Cobar Roosters sit alone and on top of the Christie and Hood Castlereagh League competition ladder after a thrilling and hard-fought win over the Coonabarabran Unicorns in a match of the round that lived up to its pre-game hype!
The two teams were both undefeated going into the game, but the Roosters prevailed with a 20-16 victory and headed home as competition leaders.
The Roosters will be on the bus again this Saturday, travelling to Gilgandra to play a Panthers outfit that will be keen to grab another win at home after losing two on the trot on the road, last time going down to Gulgong Bull Terriers in a high scoring game with the Terriers getting out to an 18-0 lead in the first half before heading to the sheds with the scoreboard reading 18-6, that 12 point margin being carried through to the full time siren with the final score being 42-30 in what was a high scoring game.
Spectators at the Warren versus Narromine game played at Warren were treated to a try feast with seventeen of them being scored in a game where the points beat the clock with a total of 84 being scored, the final result seeing the Jets retain their unbeaten run (two wins and a draw) thus far in season 2026 with a 54-30 win, a highlight being their full back
Darby Gordon crossing for four of their eleven tries.
Both sides will need to sharpen up their defensive capabilities for their round four clashes
which will see Narromine hosting Coonabarabran in the match of the round whilst the
Bulldogs head to Coolah to face the reigning premiers, a side that broke through for it’s first win this season with a narrow 30 to 26 win over the Coonamble Bears last Saturday to retain the Boronia Cup.
In league tag the Dunedoo Swannettes, the Coolah Flyers and the Gulgong Bull Terriers
remain undefeated with the Swannettes disposing of Baradine 60-0, the Flyers being strong winners over Coonambl 42-0, whilst the Bull Terriers were made to work hard for a 14-10 win over Gilgandra’s Pink Panthers.
The first round of the reserve grade competition saw wins to Cobar, Coolah and Gulgong.
