The Trundle Boomers have slipped from the top of the Woodbridge Cup ladder after a narrow loss to Peak Hill, allowing Oberon and Manildra to move back into equal first position after eight rounds.
The Roosters, who will be a threat to any side this season, beat the Boomers by just two points, 20-18, which was enough to knock the Boomers off the top of the ladder.
However, despite their loss, Trundle remains just one point behind the two leading clubs.
New joint competition leaders Oberon had a strong 52-10 win over Orange United, while fellow top side Manildra faced a stern test in defeating Molong 30-26.
The Cargo Blue Heelers had a one-point 17-16 win over Blayney Bears which allows them fourth position, only two points astern of the leading clubs.
In the other games Eugowra defeated Cowra 28-18 and Canowindra ran out winners over Grenfell 58-24.
In the round 9 games Peak Hill and Blayney need wins to maintain their positions on the ladder, Blayney hosting the dangerous Trundle in the game with most interest, and Peak Hill at home to Orange United.
